LIVE MUSIC IN OUR DINING ROOM

So the story goes, I was singing on the way home from the hospital. And I clung to that thread which was passed down to me from both sides of my family; Weaving through life with music. There was a lot of singing together, piano, and guitar in my family. My mom was in an acoustic trio with harmonies. They practiced in our house. So, we did too - while washing dishes, etc.

I sang the harmony with my middle sister who learned all the songs on guitar and we sang for miscellaneous shows. Meanwhile, I played clarinet in band, which was my grandfather’s from his Big Band days. I played tenor sax in the jazz band and did the marching band thing - we had Captain Marvel as our coach. We did a bit of touring the competition rings. Getting out of our small West Virginia town was great excitement.

After my sister graduated, I felt a bit lost. I began studying voice at Shenandoah College and Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia and was soon on a trail towards the music field. I attended Alderson-Broaddus College on a music scholarship in West Virginia but Berklee College of Music is where I really wanted to be, so I moved to Boston, MA.

I was in a couple of cover bands before I met my friends from Hunter’s Moon. We were an acoustic trio with cool harmonies performing originals from each of us. During this time, I sang on personalized children’s tapes (some very interesting names and fun making animal sounds). After Hunter’s Moon disintegrated, my album was born: Road Signs To The Sun. I was a featured vocalist on John Donelan’s cd: Our Life And Times which was recorded with the same band. I began to play guitar with John; performing as a duo or sometimes with a band to promote our music.

I needed to branch out on my own, so I started playing more solo gigs. I had different line-ups of my band and tried to come up with some interesting band names but nothing stuck. In 2008, I released my studio record (with 14 musical guests), Don’t Forget About It. During the recording, my good friend from college, Steve and I reconnected. That is when The Erinn Brown Band had solidified. After performing for a few years and giving my recorded material a different feel, we went into the studio for a Live cd: Erinn Brown Band, Ruled My Life, in 2011.

I’m always trying to work on new material. For the next recording, there are a few collaborations with Alison Keslow, Steve Peabody and Randy Leventhal. We've started recording and will have a CD of originals by the spring of 2023 .

I perform with a band, trio, duo or solo gigs when I’m not teaching private lessons.

LIVE MUSIC IN OUR DINING ROOM

Whether you’ve seen my solo gig or are just checking me out in general, here’s a short bio of who I am. I’ve been playing since the mid eighties either in bands or duos or solo. It’s been a lot of years since I’ve played solo – since the late 90’s.   Why?  Because I formed a band called Beyond The Pale that was an incredible band and a great bunch of guys. This band ended up being so much fun that I abandoned solo work.  I also formed a duo with one of my BTP mates that also became very successful – The Foggy Duo. But I’ve always missed the quieter, intimate interaction of playing solo so I decided it was time to re-introduce solo gigging to my musical palette.

Playing solo, my aim is to serve the song.   A song is a pretty sacred thing when you think about it – especially from the singer songwriter perspective.    So I’ve gathered a set of great material  that I’m excited to play for you.   This includes classics like James Taylor, deep cuts like Jesse Winchester, and tunes by bands that have left their lasting mark on me,  like The Band and The  Grateful Dead.  And to push myself a little I even include some melodic jazz tunes.

So that’s what you’ll hear at the gigs – the song is the thing and if you think likewise we’re gonna spend some quality time together.
